And now, finally, the big news!

I’m teaming up with authors Craig DiLouie (TOOTH AND NAIL, THE INFECTION, THE KILLING FLOOR, and the upcoming SUFFER THE CHILDREN) and fellow Tejan Joe McKinney (DEAD CITY, FLESH EATERS, and the soon-to-be-released zombie novel, THE SAVAGE DEAD) to write a six-part series called THE RETREAT. Craig did a fantastic job making the announcement on his blog, so I’ll merely cut-and-past here:

“I’m excited to make a special announcement today. In a collaboration with Joe McKinney (FLESH EATERS, THE SAVAGE DEAD) and Stephen Knight (THE GATHERING DEAD, EARTHFALL), I will be introducing a new six-part series of novellas (about 40,000 words) for eBook, THE RETREAT. Here’s the synopsis:

As a new disease turns people into sadistic, laughing killers, in Boston, a battalion of light infantry struggles to maintain order. As the numbers of infected grow, the battalion loses control, and the soldiers find themselves fighting for their lives against the very people they once swore an oath to protect.

During the ensuring collapse, the lost battalion learns the Army is still holding out in Florida, which has been cleared of the Infected. Harry Lee, its commander, decides the only hope for his men is to get there. But first they must cross more than a thousand miles of America that has been turned into a war zone, fighting a fearless, implacable and merciless enemy.

The first two episodes will be published in the fall. Stay tuned for this exciting new series!”

Craig has the first novella well underway, and I’ll be ramping up on the second one in the coming months. Joe also has a fair plan of action for the third. Jeroen ten Berge will provide the covers, which is always a treat.

Get ready, troops!

Hopefully this will cover different ground than “CROSSED” comic which features very sadistic killers but a typically (typical for standard apoc genre) inept / non existant military presence.

Great writers can write great stories. Good luck to you all. I know it’ll be a winner.

All of your projects sound fantastic that you have posted about and I would love to read them immediately. This one sounds so good, but the e-reader part is tough for me as I still have not given up on having a book in my hand. Any chance these stories will come together in an actual book? Keep them coming and we will keep on buying them!

Craig and Joe are lukewarm on a print release, except for an omnibus edition. I’ll bend their ears to at least release three in one volume, so folks don’t have to wait a year or more for print.
